The Young Horned One

At the top of the hierarchy of the Kelt hunters' caste is the Great Horned One, also called the Master of the Hunt. Every year, on the occasion of the Great Hunt, a ritual that marks the renewal of nature, the title of Young Horned One is put at stake. The contenders compete against each other in tests of strength, skill and courage. The winner can then challenge the reigning Young Horned One to a ritual battle, in the hope of taking his place.

At the death of the Great Horned One, this function falls to the Young Horned One. No one can unseat the Master of the Hunt who retains his rank until his death. He represents the experience of the caste, while the Young Horned One symbolizes its vigorous and ever-renewed blood.

Tanath won his claim to the title of Young Horned One seven years ago now, and no one has yet managed to surpass him.
